The history
A family story
De Rijke’s debut (1945 – the early years)
The adventure began in 1945, when founder Cees de Rijke purchased the first truck from the US Army. At the time, activities were focused on milk and livestock transport in the Spijkenisse and Rotterdam region of the Netherlands.
Expansion and Specialization in Chemical Logistics
De Rijke’s growth has continued steadily and beyond the national borders. The company developed via logistics activities for the chemical industry, which was flourishing in the Rotterdam port area, offering transport of liquid chemicals in tankers. From the 1960s onwards, the company opened its first three branches outside the Netherlands, most notably in France in 1982.
A European logistics network with global ambitions
The following three decades saw the founding, acquisition or creation of several establishments in Western Europe, and the expansion of activities throughout Europe. Today, from its headquarters in Spijkenisse in the Netherlands, De Rijke is an independent family business with a global reach. It is now a full-service logistics provider, with an extensive network of freight forwarding and logistics warehouses throughout Europe.
